International Summer School “CO-CONSTRUCTING OMAN: Global Knowledge Production and the Making of National Identity”

This interdisciplinary summer school, organized by scholars from the universities of Mainz, Frankfurt, Heidelberg, and their collaborators in Oman, aims to facilitate interactive engagement with contemporary knowledge production about Oman. Drawing on Science Studies, the program will explore the political nature of science and its impact on the world. Discussions will focus on the intersection of international and interdisciplinary scientific practices, national science and policy, and public involvement. Participants will critically reflect on dominant disciplines in Oman’s knowledge production, address exclusions, and explore new avenues like citizen science for engaging local communities. The summer school targets both graduate students and experienced scholars, seeking to advance methodological discussions, provide a safe space for collaborative challenges, and generate proposals for reconfiguring knowledge production about Oman. Successful applicants will receive funding for travel and accommodation to participate in Mainz, Germany, attending seminars, engaging in discussions, and workshopping ideas with experts and peers on relevant themes.
